CRICKET: The time has come for the annual Whitsunday Cricket sevens competition at Proserpine Cricket Ground.
The modified short games need seven-aside teams to play off in pools for prizemoney across two days from Saturday, December 9, to Sunday, December 10.
Organiser Craig Brown said the event was the main fundraiser for the local cricket club.
"You can take it as seriously as you like,” he said.
"Come along and have a good time, there will be music playing all weekend with drinks and food available and daily prizes and raffles.
"It's a fun weekend of cricket and we encourage mixed teams and female teams to join.”
The event has a 20-year history for the club, with money raised going towards maintenance and upgrades for the rest of the year.
Last year 24 teams entered, a number Brown would like to see repeated.
"If there is anyone out there struggling for things to do for Christmas drinks with their workmates or any of the other sporting clubs want to put a team in, it's always a great event,” Brown said.
"Teams get right into it and dress up; last year we had the Steve Irwin's all in khaki, there's a Hawaiian pirates most year's and some guys even stole their mum's vacuums and played with them strapped to their backs as ghosts busters.”
Nomination forms must be in by Friday, December 1, before 5pm by emailing email@example.com or calling Craig on 4945 4983.
Registration cost is $100 per team (10 players=$10 per player) and must be paid prior to playing.
