Footballers play cricket in honour of club legend
PROSERPINE Cricket Association will play Whitsunday Sea Eagles in a memorial charity match in honour of Dale Lambert, on Saturday at noon.
Festivities will start from 11am onwards.
Mr Lambert was the former president of junior cricket in Proserpine and a coach of the club.
At the age of 58 in July 2015 Mr Lambert passed away after a battle with cancer.
Proserpine Cricket Association president Craig Brown said that Mr Lambert was a solid clubman of both the cricket and local football club, who Mr Lambert's son played for.
"I played indoor cricket with him over 20 years ago he was junior president and I was the seniors president”
"He and I arranged for the junior cricket to move to the senior cricket grounds in Proserpine.”
Mr Lambert was a trainer for the Sea Eagles and a respected clubman.
Mr Lambert's wife Kerrie Lambert and son Dylan Lambert will be at the game on Saturday.
Dylan is set to don the pads on Saturday morning for his old team the Whitsunday Sea Eagles.
The inaugural charity match will raise funds for the blue nurses, "they were very supportive of Dale when he was sick” Mr Brown said.
"They'll be raffles a bar running and food available on the day with all proceeds going to the charity,” Mr Brown said.
"A ball catching and a longest kick competition will double as entertainment and help to rally funds.
"There will be tins out around the bar for spare change donations as well.”
With a trophy up for grabs, Mr Brown said "anybody who knew, played or was coached by Dale, is encouraged to attend, have fun and support the cause.”
