PEOPLE in the Whitsundays are enjoying safer and more reliable road access thanks to the replacement of the Gregory River Bridge on Dingo Beach Rd.
Federal Member for Dawson George Christensen said the old single-lane timber bridge had now been replaced thanks to a $1.25 million grant under Round Two of the Liberal National Government's Bridges Renewal Program.
"This $1.25 million grant under the Bridges Renewal Program was matched by funding from Whitsunday Regional Council to improve the road network in the region,” Mr Christensen said.
"The old single-lane timber bridge has now been replaced by a two-lane concrete bridge providing a huge safety boost for Whitsunday drivers and visitors to our region.
"It was identified as a priority by local government and works were managed by the Whitsunday Regional Council.”
Work commenced in September 2016 and was completed recently at a total cost of $2.5 million.
